The Center for Teaching Excellence was established at LCC in 1994 through the vision of a group of interested volunteer faculty, administrators and staff who were inspired by the 1989 International Conference on Teaching Excellence in Austin, Texas. This planning group developed the mission and goals that would create "A Place for Faculty" to enable the enhancement of teaching potential and effectiveness. They wished to create a place for faculty to exchange ideas and resources, be assisted with course and lesson development, and have opportunities to learn new skills.
The originating group was transformed over the years to the CTE Leadership Team that now represents various academic areas on campus, and offers faculty advice on Center offerings and initiatives. The CTE is directed by an experienced group of faculty with expertise in instructional design, curriculum development and instructional technology. The Center is operationally under the Academic Affairs Office, which gives staff direct access to the College's initiatives that impact faculty and students. The CTE is then able to respond in a timely manner to areas of support needed by the faculty.
