Scholarship, Grant and Tuition Reimbursement Opportunities For Child Care

Families may receive tuition assistance for their child care expenses from several Federal, state or local agencies. Here is a list of agencies that provide assistance and how to apply for them:

Child Care Commitment If Available:
(Eligible families may receive 40% of the annual cost of childcare and early education for one child per family, up to a maximum of $2,688 for one year. Child Care Commitment is a one-time award for a period of twelve months.)

  • The child to benefit from this award must live with the applicant and be between the ages of birth to five years
  • The child must not be currently enrolled, eligible to be enrolled or scheduled to be enrolled in kindergarten for the upcoming year or the academic year in progress.
  • All parents and adults living in the household must be:
    • employed for at least 35 hours per week; or
    • attending school full-time at a minimum of 12 credit hours; or
    • employed and attending school (as long as both combined equals full-time, for example working 20 hours plus being enrolled for 6 credit hours).
  • The applicant must be ineligible for childcare payments from any other funding source.
  • The childcare provider must be licensed through Michigan's Office of Children and Adult Licensing at the time of the award.

Lansing Child Care Scholarship
(The City of Lansing funds to assist low and moderate low income Lansing families with their child care expenses while parents are working or going to school at least part time.) Below are approximate dates. The next round of applications available soon. Deadline to return completed application is early May. Scholarships will be awarded approximately June.

The Scholarship period may begin July 1, 2013 and runs through December 31, 2013. Eligible applications received after May will be placed on the waiting list.

In order to be eligible for the Lansing Child Care Scholarship Program, a family must reside in and use regulated child care within the corporate limits of the City of Lansing. There is specific income limitations applied in determining eligibility. Priority goes to those in the Very Low category.
