Scholarship, Grant and Tuition Reimbursement Opportunities For Child Care

Families may receive tuition assistance for their child care expenses from several Federal, state or local agencies. Here is a list of agencies that provide assistance and how to apply for them:

Child Care Commitment If Available:
(Eligible families may receive 40% of the annual cost of childcare and early education for one child per family, up to a maximum of $2,688 for one year. Child Care Commitment is a one-time award for a period of twelve months.)

The pre-application is online at

  • The child to benefit from this award must live with the applicant and be between the ages of birth to five years
  • The child must not be currently enrolled, eligible to be enrolled or scheduled to be enrolled in kindergarten for the upcoming year or the academic year in progress.
  • All parents and adults living in the household must be:
    • employed for at least 35 hours per week; or
    • attending school full-time at a minimum of 12 credit hours; or
    • employed and attending school (as long as both combined equals full-time, for example working 20 hours plus being enrolled for 6 credit hours).
  • The applicant must be ineligible for childcare payments from any other funding source.
  • The childcare provider must be licensed through Michigan's Office of Children and Adult Licensing at the time of the award.

If the family or household income level falls below these guidelines, you may still be eligible for this award if you are able to submit proof of denial of childcare assistance from the Michigan Department of Human Services.

Lansing Child Care Scholarship

A child care scholarship program is available to resident living in the corporate city limits of Lansing for children infant through school age.

The Scholarship Awards are for full time or part time at the following rates:

Full-time: $40.00 per week
Part-time: $20.00 per week

For families to be considered for the Lansing Childcare Scholarship Award Program they must complete the application by 5 pm on Friday, July 12, 2013.

  • Eligible applications received after 5 pm, July 12, 2013 will be placed on the waiting list and considered for scholarship awards depending upon availability of funds.

To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:

  • Reside in the corporate city limits of Lansing
  • Use licensed child care in the corporate city limits of Lansing.
  • Must not be eligible or receiving child care assistance through DHS (the State Department of Human Services) or any other program. If you are income eligible for DHS, you will be referred to apply with them.
  • Scholarships run for a 45 week period: August 18, 2013 through June 28, 2014
