LCC Announces New Scholarship for Area High School Grads
LANSING 12/21/11 – The Lansing Community College Board of
Trustees recently approved a new scholarship program for high school
graduates from the 15 public school districts in the college’s service area.
During the program’s first year, 30 one-year, full-time scholarships – two
per school district – will be provided and the districts will select the
recipients. In subsequent
years, the number of scholarships allocated to each district will be based
on the percentage of their students that enroll at LCC who are
college-ready.
LCC will calculate the percentage of matriculating students from each
district who arrived at LCC college-ready in reading, writing and math as
determined by assessment tests.
The school districts are: Bath,
Dansville, DeWitt, East Lansing, Grand Ledge, Haslett, Holt/Dimondale,
Lansing, Leslie, Mason, Okemos, Stockbridge, Waverly, Webberville, and
Williamston.
LCC is committed to supporting school districts in preparing high
school graduates for college level work. The scholarships are intended to
provide incentives for young people to get ready for higher education.
The cost of 30 one-year, full-time scholarships is $56,880. The first year scholarships are expected to be given to school districts in late spring 2012.
