Future & Current Students - Evan Mize
I have just finished my senior year of high school, while at the same time at LCC I've earned 14 credits and have my Basic Emergency Medical Technician license, which allows me to practice in Michigan. Because of this pilot program, I'll actually enter LCC with the first year of my degree in the paramedic program completed.
I never really thought about working in emergency medical or fire science areas - I always wanted to be a cop. But right away in the introduction I got to the EMT program has changed my mind. It wasn't just class work. We actually worked and learned alongside experienced professionals in the field. They fully expected me to be able to do the job and even introduced me to the patients as their partner. I can't describe how excited I am to put to use what I've learned, to help people. I can't wait to get behind the wheel of an ambulance. And I want to move on now to the paramedic level, the highest level of EMS (Emergency Medical Service) provider. And after paramedic school, I'll go on to the Fire Academy and get my bachelor's degree in fire science.
This program has been of major lifestyle shift for me. I've matured a big hurry because of it. I don't take anything for granted any more. I've already seen people's lives shattered in just one moment. That's a life lesson that I've taken from this experience. I want to give back by helping them in that moment, however I can.
