STEMfest for Kids, Grades K-6
October 10, 2015
STEMfest (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Festival) is the new name for SMEE. STEMfest will take place in the Arts and Sciences Building on LCC's downtown campus on Saturday, October 10, 2015.
STEMfest is open to all elementary age children in the tri-county area: Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham.
STEMfest is a day for the children of LCC's community to come to the campus and experience hands-on interactive, STEM events. All events are non-competitive with an emphasis on learning. We offer activities ranging from eye dissection to making and learning about spirals. Faculty and students (elementary education majors) will be running the day's events.
STEMfest is very rewarding, fun and exciting for students, parents, and teachers. Students can choose from many activities, focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. Parents are welcome as chaperones to help their children fully explore the science and math ideas presented. Teachers have used this event as a means of involving parents in their children's education. Many teachers use some of the events as classroom activities to support their science curriculum or as individual science projects. Everyone who attends STEMfest goes home with new found information and hopefully a love of science, technology, education, and mathematics.
Students decide which events they would like to do. Most of our participants find it difficult to attend all events, since there are so many to choose from. We offer chemistry and biology demonstrations along with exciting planetarium shows. So, as you see there are many things to be learned.
