The Student Life and Ombudsman Office's Volunteer Service Listing nurtures, promotes and instills the spirit of volunteerism by promoting volunteer opportunities for students, faculty, staff and the community.

* The following listings will be in effect for a minimum of 30 days. If the volunteer position is filled, the Student Life Office will be notified by the agency so the request may be removed from the list.

Volunteer Service Opportunities
For The Week of May 8, 2012
OFF-CAMPUS
#11 - The Eliezer Temple Church, Inc., at 3637 W. Jolly Road is seeking outreach/mentor volunteers to assist homeless youth with life skills development in order to increase their self-sufficiency. Volunteers are asked to commit two hours a week for one year. Intergenerational mentors (55-plus) are preferred, but all are welcome. Contact Elton Johnson 517-394-2544 or visit ETCvision@aol.com.
#10 - The Old Town Commercial Association is seeking volunteers to help clean up Old Town for spring and the festival season as part of the Community Cleanup Program. Responsibilities could include cleaning the Turner mini-park, planting flowers, picking up trash, hanging banners, painting signs and more. Time commitments of five hours are needed. #9 - The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission is seeking volunteers for the 16th annual Children's Water Festival. The event takes place Thursday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wells Hall on the campus of Michigan State University. The volunteers will assist presenters, help with registration and/or work as ushers and hall monitors. For more information, contact Erin Campbell at 517-393-0342 or h2ofast@mitcrpc.org.
#8 - The Capital Area Literacy Coalition has immediate needs for volunteers in several positions, including administrative assistant, family school partnership supervisor, book-drop coordinator, migrant tutor, GED tutor, adult tutor and "Read-to-Succeed" tutor. Many of these opportunities take place at the CALC office at 1028 E. Saginaw Highway, Lansing. Times vary. Locations vary for some positions. Training is provided for each of these positions. The purpose of the CALC is to improve the quality of life in the Capitol area by promoting and achieving literacy for children, teens and adults. # 7 - After-school tutor needed for Lutheran Social Services of Michigan, 801 S. Waverly Road, Lansing. Volunteer will assist refugee youth with homework assignments and speaking English.
