What Sustainability Is
Video from the 2011 Lansing Community College Dumpster Dive.
Sustainability is a term often used, but generally misunderstood. The term simply refers to a way of living that meets the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The scope of sustainability efforts is broad and far-reaching. It is a dynamic, continuous process.
The term 'sustainability' is not just in reference to environmental outcomes; sustainability is closely linked with economic and social behavior as well as the environment.
The Major Goals
- Initiate the development of a comprehensive plan to achieve climate neutrality.
- Initiate tangible actions to reduce greenhouse gases while the more comprehensive plan is being developed.
- Make the action plan, inventory, and periodic progress reports publicly available by providing them to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for posting and dissemination.
