The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional Communication meets the needs of
people who have prior learning or work experience in a number of communication
related fields, including communication, journalism, professional writing,
advertising, graphic arts, marketing, multimedia, film and web design. The
degree can also be pursued by those who have an interest in improving their
communication skills in such careers as health care, management, sales, and
marketing.
NOTES:
1. This transfer guide represents an Articulation (partnership) Agreement between
Lansing Community College (LCC) and Siena Heights University (Siena) that
facilitates the transfer of 90 LCC credits toward the Bachelor of Applied
Science degree at SHU. This articulated agreement does not have a specified
expiration date.
2. This guide includes courses for the Speech Communication program, allowing
students to simultaneously earn an LCC Associate in Arts Degree while prepar-
ing to transfer to Siena.
3. Degree Requirements: To earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena, a student
must complete a total of 120 semester hours of college credit. Within that
120 hours, a student must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at the 300/
400 level, including at least 15 hours earned at SHU. Transferable credits
must include SPCH 130.
4. General Education Requirements: A student who transfers 60 or more semester
hours to Siena Heights must include the following courses, selected in
cooperation with the SHU advisor:
a. English composition: 6 credits
b. Mathematics OR lab science: 3-4 credits
c. Social science, fine/performing arts, literature or history: 3 credits
5. Developmental-level credit will not transfer toward major requirements. A
minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all major courses.
6. Upon admission into the Professional Communication degree program, students
must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50.
7. Professional Communication Elective: (18 credits are required with 3 of the
credits taken at SHU) Electives may include courses from the fields of
communication, film, journalism, graphic design, management, marketing,
multimedia, professional writing, and web design. Students should contact
the SHU advisor with questions regarding approved electives.
