This online course has been designed specifically for faculty who will be teaching online and/or hybrid courses. Successful completion will result in an online teaching certification granted by Lansing Community College's Center for Teaching Excellence.
Participants will develop an understanding of D2L and other online tools, gain knowledge of pedagogical approaches, assessment options, and inclusive student engagement techniques in the online learning environment. Participants will explore existing and evolving technologies, including communication and collaboration applications as well as educational technology systems and trends. This is a pass/fail course that requires weekly discussions, assignments and a guided creation of a D2L course that incorporates the TOC course concepts. While this is an online training, it is not self-paced.
Competencies expected for an optimal experience in this course include basic computer skills, including the ability to log in to D2L, use email, add and open email attachments, create, save, and modify files in commonly used word processing formats. Also, proficiency in copying, pasting and downloading/installing software.
