National Brands to Debut in LCC's new Food Court this November

November 1, 2014

Lansing, MICH – With a curved glass wall exterior inspired by Chicago architecture, the recently transformed Gannon Building on the LCC downtown campus has become instant landmark. Even more, the new food court inside has sparked interest as a downtown destination as national food vendors start serving up trendy and satisfying selections this fall.

Beginning in November, students, staff and visitors can enjoy hot breakfast, lunch and dinner options in the renovated Gannon Building food court known as “The Commons.” National vendors like Einstein Bros. Bagels, Pizza Hut Express and Subway will debut on staggered schedules between now and December, with Einstein Bagels slated to open first on November 3. Specialty food stations managed by the Michigan-based Continental Services will follow in early winter, and feature handcrafted grill items, custom salads, grab-and-go options and snacks, flavored ices, and a global cuisine area for the adventurous palate.

"It's great for the students, staff and the surrounding community," says Todd Brannock, general manager of Continental Services. "You don't have to go off-site or very far to get your favorite foods or specialty coffee or beverage. It's all right here. There's a multitude of restaurants at your fingertips."

Michigan-based Continental Services oversees the food court as well as other food service operations at LCC. For the past several weeks, Brannock has been immersed in learning the quality standards demanded by the national vendors coming to court. He is currently training 30 staff for the various outlets, and expects to hire up to 25 more staff in the coming weeks.

Cyndi Rooker, LCC director of materials management and liaison for food and conference services, said that the new food court will meet and beat expectations for exceptional food at affordable prices.

"Diners will also enjoy the spectacular and stunning surroundings," says Rooker. "The renovated food court creates a sense of place for students, staff and community alike."
